Still Waters Run Deep
April 15 - 4:30-6:30pm at Integral Yoga Institute, San Francisco
April 22 - 4-6pm at Ocean Yoga, Pacifica
Yoga postures (asana) are intended to be an internal experience, leading to mental focus and stillness. It is useful to prepare the body for deep work with movement and repetition of postures. However, the deeper work comes when we hold postures and move our awareness through the breath internally while the body is still. Even though we are not moving overtly, there is an internal dynamism flowing with a current of breath and awareness. Learn how to find that alignment and integrity in a posture and then settle into it with presence, depth and ease to find your still depth.
Go Long - Lengthen the Spine
May 20 - 4:30-6:30pm at Integral Yoga Institute, San Francisco
May 27 - 4-6pm at Ocean Yoga, Pacifica
We are erect creatures in a gravitational field. How do we maintain that length and healthy spaciousness between the spinal vertebrae? A good yoga practice gives us the feeling of being taller and more open and relaxed. We will explore the experience of axial extension - long spine - in all types of postures and positions. We do not gain to go deeper at the expense of compressing our spinal discs to attain this. Learn how to maintain your spinal spaciousness and respectfully do your best work in the asana.
